Drissen Peter: A brief history of iron - and steel -slag in roadmaking

Metalurgia International (vol. XI), no.3, 2006, p. 5

The use of metallurgic slag as construction material has a longstanding tradition as can be proved by historical findings and revision of literature. With increasing industrialisation the use of these materials was set on scientific and technical bedrock. Changes in the production of iron and steel as well as increasing demands in civil engineering have been a challenge for metallurgists and civil engineers. The continuous efforts of both have contributed to today’s high quality of slag products. The paper is a written version of a presentation held on the DSU-Romania Seminar “LiDonit – un produs integral reciclabil in industria constructiilor”, 26 – 27 January 2006.

Metalurgia International (vol. XI), no.3, 2006, p. 12

Using the finite differences method it is shown that a diffusion equation can generate but not maintain a double layer (DL). Instead of these, a reaction-diffusion equation system induces a Koch-type fractal which leads to a self-organization scenario of plasma-plasma interface as a DL.  Using the Scale Relativity Theory (SRT) it was shown that a plasma-plasma interface behaves as a junction of Josephson type: a negative differential resistance is its self-structuring condition, it has memory through hysterezis and work in two oscillation regimes. This model is important in the surface phenomenon study.

Ana Veţeleanu, Ciociu Nicolae: The silver covering of highly heat-proof plastics

Metalurgia International (vol. XI), no.3, 2006, p. 22

In the framework of this research we have approached metallizing plastics by chemically reducing the nickel. The aim of this research is to discover new technologies of chemical metallization of highly heat-proof plastics, such as: PEEK-polyetheretherketon and PSU-polysulfon, the results we have obtained being used in order to extend the use of chemical metallization of the insulating materials.

In order to obtain a comparison electrode Ag/AgCl, for use in the chemical industry, the deposition of the silver upon a nickel conducting film is necessary. With the help of the potentiostatic chlorination, the deposited silver layer forms AgCl at the surface, this way the combination Ag/AgCl may be obtained and remains stable in various chemical media.

Căliman Radu: Cycle fatigue life model for particulate-reinforced metal-matrix composites

Metalurgia International (vol. XI), no.3, 2006, p. 27

A cycle fatigue life prediction model for particulate-reinforced metal-matrix composites (MMCs) is presented. The cycle fatigue behaviour of particulate-reinforced MMCs is treated as a localised damage development phenomenon activated by applied cyclic loading. The localised cyclic stress and strain concentration and fatigue damage evolution of microstructural elements within the fatigue damaged zone ahead of the crack tip are considered to dominate the whole cycle fatigue processes.

GHIMBĂŞEANU Ioan: Computer-assisted simulation of a thermocouple with PtRh-Pt thermoelement

Metalurgia International (vol. XI), no.3, 2006, p. 30

The paper presents the computer-assisted simulation of a thermocouple with PtRh-Pt thermoelement. The thermocouple simulation is made through the LabVIEW graphic programme, referring to the data tables provided by the AICHELIN furnace constructions company in Stuttgart.

GeamĂn Virgil, Munteanu Sorin Ion, Ciobanu Ioan, Crişan Aurel: Recent advances in rapid hard tooling

Metalurgia International (vol. XI), no.3, 2006, p. 33

Early in the development of stereo lithography (SL) it was clear that this revolutionary technology could be applied to numerous aspects of the manufacturing process.

The paper presents a new way for improving a rapid hard tooling technology. There are presented few new data about this technology.

Chichernea Florin:  3-d modelling of foundry equipment. parth I

Metalurgia International (vol. XI), no.3, 2006, p. 37

Going beyond classical design models of equipment in general and foundry equipment in particular may lead  to a spectacular leap in this field. This dose not imply the complete elimination of what has been achieved to date, but a continuation of the stage of classical design by applying modern  3D computer aided design methods.

Currently, give the large range of available 3D modelling and designing software, the work of the designing engineer can reach 80-90% efficiency, with results close to realty.
